DIY Projects
DIY sustainable and renewable energy projects can be both rewarding and save you money. If you are a hands on type of person, have some tools at home and genuinely are interested in renewable energy, then you will probably enjoy building some DIY solar panels or a DIY wind generator.
I have purchased this e-book which is a comprehensive guide to making your own solar panels. Although it comes with a string initial sales pitch, the information is well worth the $27 US you pay for it as it gives you heaps of info about types of solar cell, sealing the panel, tools to use etc. You can also download the 2 Gigs of video which step through the whole process.
When I purchased the above product they also threw in a guide to building your own wind turbine which may be of interest to you. If you are only interested in building your own wind generator, then try the second ebook below.
Both of these projects offer excellent incentives to make your own energy setup. Please note however that unless you are an energy guru, I wouldn't suggest that making either of these would actually save you much money. By the time you look at all the parts you have purchased, costs of hiring a contractor to attach device to the grid etc, you may well find you have spent a lot more on the task.
If you are relatively isolated, want to set up a stand alone power supply or are just interested in DIY projects then this would be a lot of fun. Of course if you don't want to buy the e-books mentioned, just look around on the net and you will find a heap of plans, tips and idea to help you work out the best projects and parts for your needs.
When I complete my own solar panels I will let you know how much energy they produce, any cost savings and all the tips and tricks I have learnt along the way.
